Underarm Flab

!±8± Underarm Flab

Do you have a problem with excess fat hanging off of the bottom of your arm? If so, don't worry! This is a very common problem and can be addressed with proper exercise.

The first thing you have to know is that spot reduction, the idea that doing exercises for the muscles under the arm flab will get rid of the arm flab, is not true. Your body chooses what fat deposits to take energy from in a predetermined pattern, so you cannot "make" it take the underarm flab first. Therefore, you have to burn far from your body in general in order to make it take some from your underarms.

Still, I do recommend that you do exercises for your triceps, which is the muscle that underlies your underarm. If you tone your triceps it will cause the skin of the arm to hang higher, which will improve the appearance of the entire arm. Try doing 4 sets of 10 reps of tricep press downs followed by 4 sets of 10 reps of close grip bench press next time you are in the gym. Don't use too much weight when doing these movements, and really focus on feeling your triceps working. You will see an improvement in the tone of your arm quickly if you do these movements on a regular basis.

And, of course, you have to burn some calories in order to get rid of that fat. Try inserting workouts into your normal daily routine. For example, if you are going out with co-workers for lunch try to walk to the restaurant instead of drive. It may not seem like much, but if you do this over time the fat losses start to really add up. As far as work in the gym goes, try to do 3 moderate intensity cardio sessions per week. You can do the stationary bike, the elliptical, the treadmill... just about anything that gets your heart rate up and makes you sweat.

Put these strategies into action and I am sure you will have the toned, sexy arms of a fitness model in no time at all!

Stretch Before Your Workout-Nothing will stop your fitness goals faster then an injury. Stretching helps to eliminate the potential of injury by warming up your muscles and getting it ready to exercise. Some common areas to stretch are your hamstrings, quadriceps and inner and outer thighs.

Vary Your Speed- Running at one constant speed is great exercise but to really shock your body and get in shape faster you should change it up a little bit. To vary your speed try sprinting for one minute the walking slowly for a minute followed by another sprint. If you repeat this process for thirty to forty minutes you will work your body with an intensity that has to be felt to be believed.

Change Direction- The elliptical trainer is unique in that it is the only exercise machine that gives the user the option to run backwards and do so in a safe manner. running backwards will really work your upper body intensely. And since humans are not conditioned to run backwards your muscles will respond very positively. Just remember to start slowly and build up speed once you feel comfortable.

Use Different Stride Lengths-Many of today's elliptical machines have the option of adjusting the stride length of the machine. This design was really to let the machine be used by a wide variety of people. But you can also use it to work your body in new and different ways. To do this just never use the same stride two workouts in a row, or better yet change strides in the middle of your workout to really mix it up.

Condition Your Upper Body- Most modern elliptical's have incorporated levers into the machines that will work your upper body. Consistent use of these levers will help you build a stronger core as well as stronger back, shoulders and arms.

Treadmill Workout Benefits

!±8± Treadmill Workout Benefits

The Best Exercise for Getting in Shape

A treadmill workout is at the top of the list of workouts on cardiovascular machines. To attain optimal health, one generally has to work at it. That means combining a healthy, balanced diet with some sort of cardiovascular workout. A treadmill workout has proved to provide great cardiovascular exercise, as well as one of the best ways to burn calories.

Medical Data Ranks Treadmill Workout #1

According to the American Medical Association, a treadmill workout ranks number one among workouts on cardiovascular machines. Walking and running continue to be two of the most popular types of exercise in the U.S. today. Whether walking is your preference, or running fits your style, a treadmill can accommodate your needs. Just set the speed and incline at your desired levels, and you are ready to go.

The treadmill is unsurpassed for a cardiovascular workout. It works the large muscles in your body. According to a study done by the Medical College of Wisconsin and the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, calories burned on the treadmill for 60 minutes averaged 865 - 705. This compares to:

Stair machine 746 - 637

Rowing machine 739 - 606

Stationary cycle 604 - 556

Cross-country ski machine 678 - 595

Treadmill Programs Add Variety

Treadmills have the ability to control the speed and incline manually. They are also equipped with a various pre-programmed workouts like interval training, fat burning and hill training. These programs allow you to vary your workout, and make it more challenging. Many treadmills allow you to store information from previous workouts. Thus, you can establish benchmarks to strive for and exceed. Treadmill programs are a great motivator.

Certain brands like ProForm and NordicTrack, offer the iFit technology. You get custom designed workout programs with audio, created by professional fitness trainers. Once again, the programs control the speed and incline to simulate various running or walking workouts.

The Treadmill Convenience Factor

One thing that makes a treadmill workout attractive is that it can be done at any time of year, during any kind of weather. You do not have to miss your runs just because it is freezing outside and dark. Nor do you have to worry about having a heat stroke from exercising in a hot, humid climate.

Another factor that makes a treadmill workout appealing is that it is a low-impact workout. The design of the treadmill allows for shock absorption during workouts. As a result, injuries to joints are less likely to occur on a treadmill than if you walk or run on asphalt and concrete. Few or no injuries during workouts make it possible to maintain a lifetime of regular exercise. Moreover, a lifetime of regular exercise can mean a more healthy existence.

To benefit from exercise, one must generally put forth some effort. The more effort you put into a treadmill workout, the more you will get out of your workout. Treadmills have been around for a number of years, and will continue to be around for years to come. The efficiency and practicality of a treadmill make a treadmill workout a popular way to attain fitness.

Treadmill Vs Elliptical

!±8± Treadmill Vs Elliptical

Which one is right for you?

I would imagine that anyone reading this article now believes that regular, vigorous aerobic exercise has great benefits for all people. Especially those of us who are middle aged, and above. I also don't have to mention that exercise can prolong our lives, and make those extra years we end up with much more enjoyable, because we're still in good health and are feeling good.

The question is, how exactly do you go about getting the aerobic exercise you need? Probably the most common method of getting in shape is simply walking. While not vigorous for a complete exercise program, regular walking can be a great way to stay in shape.

When the seasons change and it gets cold outside, people can do their walking indoors - on treadmills. Walking indoors has the advantage of a no-excuses workout - no delaying because of inclement weather. And treadmills have a tremendous range of speeds, for running, jogging and walking. The flexibility and convenience means that no one will go without their exercise because of bad weather.

But, treadmills, and walking and running in general, do have downsides. One problem that many people develop is knee and other joint problems that make it painful, or downright difficult to walk or run on a treadmill. It's the constant pounding motions that stress the delicate tissues and cartilage in the knees and hips. When a foot goes up to take a stride, it has to come down. And, there can be literally hundreds of pounds of force that gets transferred through your knees, hips and other joints. So, if walking or running hurts your joints, what other aerobic exercise can you do?

Many people, myself included, use something called an elliptical trainer for aerobic exercise. Elliptical trainers don't subject the body to the constant pounding and the general abusive movements of walking and running. These aerobic machines use an elliptical foot path that simulates walking without taking weight off the feet and legs. This is great, because the weight is not added back all at once, like what happens when you jog.

So, if you're thinking treadmill vs elliptical, just remember that the elliptical trainer is much easier on the joints than a treadmill. And, you can get just as much aerobic benefit as walking or jogging - without the pain and swelling of damaged and abused knees and other critical joints.
